Kantha Quilt Jacket by Kardo

$185

The Kantha Quilt Jacket by Kardo is made by one tailor from beginning to end, using hand spun and handwoven cotton. It is dyed using natural indigo and hand embroidered using Kantha embroidery, a specific type of craft that creates a 'cushion' like fabric. Kantha is traditional to the Eastern regions of India -- and this jacket in particular is stitched by Bengali embroidery artisans in New Delhi. Kantha stitching is often used for making blankets from upcycled materials, so you can imagine just how cozy the Kantha Quilt Jacket is, featuring a short boxy fit with three front pockets. This is a super quality, and comfortable, piece for day to day.

About The Maker: KARDO

We're excited to offer to you, KARDO-- one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by traditional tailoring and workwear. They follow a ‘ONExONE’ production philosophy in which each piece of clothing is hand-cut and sewn by a single tailor from beginning to end — each item carefully hand-finished. Thoughtfully designed and produced at the KARDO workshop in New Delhi, India, each garment is labeled on the tag with information about each maker involved in it’s entire production process. KARDO honors traditional weaving, dying and printing techniques, using fabrics such as natural indigo denim and processes like block printing and Chikankari embroidery. KARDO actively supports and collaborates with handloom weaving communities throughout India in hopes of preserving these traditional techniques and reducing environmental impact.
