Chintan Bubblegum Shirt by KARDO $300

The Chintan Bubblegum Shirt is a boxy fit, open collar shirt made from handloom matka silk. Amoung the candy stripe print, you will find a small, hand embroidered matka (ceremonial pot) motif. These yarn dyed stripe patterns were designed in-house at KARDO, and are handwoven using hand spun raw mulberry silk waste by a master weaver in Bengal. Matka silk is made from the waste of mulberry silk and the spun nature of the threads means that they are slightly thicker than conventional silk. This gives it a soft feel that is somewhere between cotton and cashmere — perfect for the breezy summer heat. KARDO creates handmade contemporary clothing, hand-crafted with minute detailing— designed in and produced from their workshop in New Delhi, India. They celebrate their craftsmen, conveying that it is not about WHERE your clothing comes from, but rather WHO made it, and under what conditions. You will find a tag on each garment highlighting the hands involved in the making of each unique piece.

About The Maker: KARDO

We're excited to offer to you, KARDO-- one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by traditional tailoring and workwear. They follow a ‘ONExONE’ production philosophy in which each piece of clothing is hand-cut and sewn by a single tailor from beginning to end — each item carefully hand-finished. Thoughtfully designed and produced at the KARDO workshop in New Delhi, India, each garment is labeled on the tag with information about each maker involved in it’s entire production process. KARDO honors traditional weaving, dying and printing techniques, using fabrics such as natural indigo denim and processes like block printing and Chikankari embroidery. KARDO actively supports and collaborates with handloom weaving communities throughout India in hopes of preserving these traditional techniques and reducing environmental impact.
